If anyone recalls me, I took a break several months back (started a new job and had extensive travel involved).

Anyway, I was considering coming back recently (took a new position with no travel). I took a peak at wow armory last week and noticed my toon was completely changed. He had a frost spec, a pvp arena rating (something I never got involved with), and additional pvp gear equipped.

I went to log in to reactivate my account but the password wasnt working. I put in a request to reset the password but I never received it vial email. I contacted blizz by email and was told the email account was different than what I was stating belonged to the account.

I was transferred over to tech support who found a keylogger program installed. The source was from an updated KTM exe file addon I had installed a while ago.

Blizz admin says that the account has apparently changed hands several times since then. The account has had IP's from 3 different locations across the United States. It cant confirm ownership at this time.

The last action I took with my toon was to deposit 5000 gold into the guild bank along with mailing pots for raids that I had stockpiled to twistracker. I said goodbye to the mage lead (his name slips my mind, he had just replaced the previous mage lead who went shammy). This was maybe 1 day after we had downed Vashj the 2nd time in a row.

Anyway, if you have run across my mage - Thorz give him a kick in the teeth please for me. Whoever he is has stolen my account. All my work, effort with jewelcrafting, etc down the drain. Not to mention a ton of gold (i had 14,000 left after i donated 5k to the guild).

I bought a new copy of the game and started a shamman named Thorbolt (closest I could get to my old name) so say hi to the weakly pathetic and broke Thorbolt if you see me !

I continued to follow the guild via wowjutsu. Congratz on clearing BT and Hyjal. Its nice to see the guild still doing well.

Contact Blizz' Billing department; they should be able to help you with regaining access to your account. Provided you can provide info like the CD Keys, payment info, etc.

Even if you plan to play the new shaman as your main, it would be worthwhile to recover your old account if for no other reason than to deny it to the jerks who're using it now. =)

I did contact blizz admin about my account.

They suspended that account pending an investigation yesterday according to the email I got. They state that the account has been suspended once before a few months back for using a 3rd party hack for gold farming.

Im afraid to install any addons now for this new account. I didnt get any weird addons from some risky site (least i dont think i did). I usually only download from cursed gaming site.

What really screwed me was the break I took. Had I caught this right away it would have been easy for blizz to save the account. 4 months later all I can hope for is them banning the person who last had it. Its likely all my stuff is long gone

Well, "Account Administration" and "Billing" are actually two different groups, I believe, so if you haven't contacted Billing yet, I'd try that, too. You're right that any gear/money/items lost are probably gone now, but if you can regain control of the account, then that's still better than nothing.

As for how you got compromised/it happening in the future.... you said that the source was a "KTM exe file addon". If you do, in fact, mean that you installed the addon via a ".exe" file, then it's quite possible that's where it came from. Using install files for addons is very risky since you never know what else it's doing on your computer. That's contrasted to simply downloading the addons directly and unzipping the text files into the appropriate addon directory. While it's not 100% that you'd never get infected that way, it's far, far less likely.

heck no.

If I was going to sell my account I wouldnt have donated 5000 gold to the guild bank plus tons of pots. I gave away tons of stuff to friends outside the guild as well.

I put too much work into Thorz to sell him. I had all 20 slot bags on my toon and in bank. I had all possible rare and meta JC recipes. I was exalted with just about every faction. I played with that toon since launch day.

Did you get a chance to talk with him ? How long after I took a break did you see Thorz online again ?

I dont remember the exact date when I cancelled WoW but it was right after we had downed Vashj for the 2nd or 3rd time. It was around or right after the holidays, I remember we were pushing hard to see Hyjal and BT content and needed to kill Vashj and the TK end boss for the two vials for attunement.

right after the holidays is when i last talked to you personally but after that maybe a week or 2 later we saw your char runnin around i think
